Arch Manning overhyped? Joey Galloway says he ‘just needs to see it’ before buying in on Texas QB

Arch Manning is getting his shot to be the starting QB for the Texas Longhorns this year.
Manning started a couple of games in relief of the injured Quinn Ewers last season, but he is the guy in Austin this fall. The hype train has already left the station surrounding Manning, who is the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite in many places.
What should we expect from the third-year Longhorn this year? Joey Galloway appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up!” on Thursday and explained why he’s taking a wait-and-see approach with Manning in 2025:
“He is way overhyped,” Galloway said. “I’m the kind of guy, I need to see something. I need to see it happen. We know he’s talented. We know he’s in a good situation. We know that Texas is a very good football team. He’ll have pieces around him. Now we need to see him take over. It’s his team now. It’s his turn now. We need to see that leadership, see that on-the-field play, and then I can get on board. But I just need to see it.”
Manning threw 90 passes for the Longhorns last year, completing 61 of them. He compiled 939 yards, 9 touchdowns and only threw 2 interceptions. He also ran for 108 yards and 4 scores.
Most of that statistical production came against lesser foes, though. Manning has been open about needing to prove himself this year, so we’ll see how he fares starting in Week 1 with a very difficult road trip to Columbus to take on reigning-champion Ohio State. That game is set for a noon ET kickoff on FOX.
