Arch Manning has had a challenging year under center for the Texas Longhorns, but things have started to look up as we enter the November slate. The Longhorns have won two consecutive games, including a 31-3 win against Mississippi State in Week 9.
Manning was extremely efficient in the game, finishing 16-of-20 for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Manning has struggled in some areas of the position this season, namely accuracy and processing. However, Manning has always been strong in the pocket. He revealed some advice he received recently from his uncle Eli Manning that has helped his game so far this season.
“Eli told me to just trust the protection,” Manning said Monday. “Whether you got sacked the play before or have been hit a bunch of times. Trust the protection.”
At times this year, Manning has taken off and tried to escape before he needed to. This has caused some of the mistakes, as he has seven interceptions thrown on the season.
The Longhorns have one of the best defenses in the country and are able to win games on that side of the ball. For Manning, trusting his lineman and the receivers more could help him not feel like he has to go out and make the big play every time.
Manning needs a strong performance in Week 10, as the Longhorns go to Columbia to take on Missouri in what could be a College Football Playoff elimination game.
