Arkansas booster John Tyson isn’t a comedian, but maybe he should try his hand in comedy on the side when he’s not trying to help make Arkansas relevant again in the SEC and college football.

Because on Monday during an event at the Little Rock Touchdown Club, Tyson unleashed a line that sent the crowd into laughter when he a question came at him. It was about Cody Campbell, a former offensive lineman at Texas Tech who’s stayed close to the program and helped it develop into a contender in the Big 12 and in the College Football Playoff discussion.

Campbell has been a member of the Texas Tech University System board of regents since April of 2021 and has been the board chair since April of last year. He’s also played a big role in Texas Tech’s NIL initiative, and then there’s the other thing that Campbell has been involved with on the side.

That would be oil, as the current co-CEO after being the co-founder of Double Eagle Energy Holdings, which is an upstream oil and gas company whose headquarters are in Fort Worth. The 45-year-old Campbell is a Lubbock native, so he bleeds Texas Tech and it has showed as a major booster for the program.

But the former star offensive guard at Texas Tech who played briefly for the Indianapolis Colts also is a big businessman with all of that oil, and Tyson was quick to compare himself and Campbell on Monday in the most humorous way. Where Campbell has oil, Tyson, a member of the Arkansas System’s Board of Trustees, has, you know, chicken, as the CEO of the family business, Tyson Foods, which is based in Springdale, Ark.

When Tyson was asked about Campbell changing the football program at Texas Tech, Tyson couldn’t resist the comparison.

“Well, he’s got oil, I’ve got chickens. So, we’ll start there,” said Tyson, ever the comedian at that moment.

Here is the unforgettable moment on Monday provided by Tyson, the longtime Arkansas fan turned funny man:
