Arkansas mourns the death of 1964 championship captain Jim Lindsey

Former Arkansas running back and team captain Jim Lindsey, a Razorbacks legend, passed away on Sunday at the age of 81. According to multiple reports, Lindsey passed away while battling a lengthy illness.
“We are saddened by the loss of Arkansas legend Jim Lindsey. He made Arkansas a better place in many ways. His friends and family are in our thoughts,” Arkansas’ X account posted on Monday.
Lindsey was a member of Arkansas’s only national championship team, captaining the 1964 Razorbacks to an 11-0 regular season, followed by a 10-7 win over Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl. Lindsey starred under head coach Frank Broyles, starting his career in 1963 and finishing in 1965 as the Razorbacks hopped to another strong start, 10-0, before falling to LSU in the Cotton Bowl.
From there, Lindsey was drafted in the second rounds of both the NFL and AFL drafts, but ended up playing for the Minnesota Vikings. Lindsey posted a good professional career with the Vikings, playing for 7 seasons and winning an NFL championship with Minnesota in 1969, just before the two leagues merged into one.
Lindsey’s celebration of life will be held this Friday at 2:30 p.m. at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
