Alabama had a slow start, and combined with a hot start for Tennessee, the Crimson Tide found themselves in a 13-0 hole early.
Joe Milton came out strong for Tennessee after the 1st quarter, was 10-for-13 passing for 112 yards, 1 TD with 3 carries for 21 yards. Overall, Tennessee had 187 yards in the 1st quarter to Alabama’s 36 yards. Tennessee had 10 first downs, to Alabama’s 1.
It was the first time Alabama was shut out under Nick Saban in the first quarter against Tennessee in its 17th meeting.
At the end of the first quarter, Saban told CBS Sports’ Jenny Dell that Alabama just needed to get off the field on 3rd down on defense.

Tennessee has had the opportunity to have a much stronger lead than this. Lucky for the Tide
13-0, Vols.
Alabama has been popped in the mouth, we’ll see how they respond.

Alabama should feel fortunate to only be down 13 right now.

“Rocky Top” can be heard over the music at Bryant-Denny Stadium with 11 seconds left in the first quarter.
Only a few pom-poms are waving in the Alabama crowd.

this could be the game where what i’ve suspected all season is made evident- this alabama team just doesn’t really care like the teams of old.

At Alabama, Tennessee QB Joe Milton completed his first nine passes. Josh Heupel’s Vols shredding the Tide early on for more than 170 yards of offense on three drives.
Tennessee leads 10-0.

Damn. Meanwhile, Tennessee is kicking Alabama’s ass. Score is 10-0 but their play on both sides of the ball is much more significant of a difference than that score reflects.
Yep, I’m watching both games. Sue me.
