Baker Mayfield agrees to multi-year contract extension with Bucaneers, per report

Baker Mayfield is staying in Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers’ quarterback, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season, has reportedly agreed to a three-year extension that will keep him with the team through 2029, according to Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, and Mike Garafolo. Per Rapoport and Schefter, the deal is worth $165 million.
Mayfield is heading into his fourth season with the Bucs, where he has rejuvenated his career. His 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2024 were a career high. But in 2025, his production dipped to 3,693 yards and 26 touchdowns.
The 2025 campaign was an all-around disappointment for Tampa Bay. It finished 8-9 and failed to make the postseason for the first time since 2019. Since winning Super Bowl LV, the Bucs have yet to make it past the division round of the NFL playoffs.
Mayfield won’t have Mike Evans to throw to anymore, as the veteran wideout left Tampa Bay after 12 seasons to sign with the San Francisco 49ers. Emeka Egbuka, though, will look to build on a promising rookie season. The Bucs also return third-year man Jalen McMillan, who was injured for much of 2025, and veteran Chris Godwin, who enters his 10th season with the team.
Tampa Bay opens the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
