The Week 7 college football slate was loaded. We had two top-8 matchups, two additional top-14 contests and major upsets, including Auburn over Georgia and Florida prevailing against Texas. Through it all, Notre Dame-BYU handled ABC’s primetime slot and delivered a fun yet controversial finish.

In the aftermath of the Cougars’ 28-24 triumph, quarterback Bear Bachmeier had no doubts about who would win on Saturday night. He told reporters that the Fighting Irish slighted him when he was a recruit, and that their actions served as fuel for him to come out on top.

“[They] disrespected me and my family pretty badly,” Bachmeier said, per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. “I wasn’t going to lose to those guys tonight.”

Bachmeier, a member of the 2025 recruiting class, was the No. 28 quarterback in 247Sports Composite rankings. He received an offer from Notre Dame on July 18, 2023, according to his recruiting profile.

The same day, Bachmeier was offered by Alabama. He eventually committed to Stanford, and enrolled early there, but transferred to BYU before ever taking a snap in Palo Alto.

The Cougars (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) are one of three unbeaten teams in their conference. The rest of the FBS has only three teams without a loss combined. BYU travels to UCF in Week 8.
