Boston College is off to a 1-8 start this season after a 25-10 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday. It’s a steep regression from Bill O’Brien’s first year with the program last year when he guided the Eagles to a 7-6 record and trip to the Pinstripe Bowl.
During O’Brien’s Tuesday press conference, a reporter began to ask a question regarding the fan response to what has been a disappointing season so far. O’Brien interrupted the question and took aim at the reporter.
“I’m glad you’re down, I’m not down, nobody’s down. We’re fighting, we’re competing. It’s the second year of this program, Mike. You always come in here with these down questions,” O’Brien said. “You show up like once a month or something like that … I don’t know what year you graduated from BC but this is a program that we’re building. Nobody here is down. We’re positive. We’re going to show up and play our [expletive] off against SMU … The sun is up and we’re fighting. That’s my message to the fans.”
Here’s video of the exchange:
The 56-year-old O’Brien was previously the head coach of Penn State (2012-2013) and the Houston Texans (2014-2020). His most recent stop was 1 season at Ohio State last year as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
SMU vs. Boston College is set for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday (ACC Network).
