The Florida Gators are not sitting in a position anyone would consider envious. They’re 1-2 through 3 games and have a date with No. 4 Miami coming up this weekend. Things could turn from bad to worse in the blink of an eye for head coach Billy Napier if the Gators aren’t careful, but he’s doing his best to remain calm in the face of adversity.

On Monday, Napier maintained confidence in Florida’s current process eventually bearing fruit. According to team reporter Scott Carter, Napier thinks the Gators are “pretty close to being dangerous.”

Napier’s words may feel hollow to Florida’s fanbase, but there are underlying signs of his sentiment being accurate. The Gators dominated LSU on the stat sheet in Week 3, posting more total yards (366) and first downs (23) than the Tigers (322 and 10). They even possessed the football for 15 more minutes (37:46 – 22:14) in the game, but were undone by 5 interceptions from DJ Lagway.

If Florida can replicate its LSU performance — minus the turnovers — going forward, Napier will have a good chance to pick up victories. However, doing so against the caliber of opponents on their upcoming slate will be tough regardless. The Gators and Hurricanes will kick off on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. E.T. (ABC).
