Florid head coach Billy Napier entered the 2025 season in a high-pressure situation down in Gainesville, with many holding the view that his job would be in serious jeopardy should he fail to produce better results on the field.
Offense in particular has been a massive source of disappointment for the Gators since Napier took the job back in 2022, and that lack of offensive production has fallen squarely on the shoulders of the man in charge.
Napier has been the primary play caller for the entire time he’s been roaming the sidelines at Florida, a role that he has repeatedly stated he has zero interest in ever giving up.
Following last weekend’s massive upset at the hands of the USF Bulls, though, many began to wonder whether or not Napier would finally be willing to hand over play calling to a full-time, dedicated offensive coordinator.
According to Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel, though, Napier doesn’t appear to have any interest in handing off his play-calling responsibilities any time soon. Napier confirmed those plans at his weekly press conference on Monday.
It’s clear that even with his seat practically being on fire at the moment, Napier still believes that he is the best man to lead the Gators’ offense, an opinion that very few fans and analysts still hold.
This is a very big risk for Napier, as it’s very likely he ends up losing his job should the offense continue to sputter as they head into SEC play.
