As Penn State’s James Franklin faces criticism for a play call that may have cost the Nittany Lions a chance to beat Ohio State, Louisville coach Bobby Petrino is also taking some heat.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals led Florida State by three points, and also had possession of the ball.

However, on first down, Petrino called a pass play, and QB Jawon Pass tossed an easy interception, as you can see in the video below:

Naturally, that led to this game-winning touchdown from the Seminoles:

After the game, Petrino admitted that the Cardinals probably should have run the ball in that situation (via SBNation.com):

โ€œI wanted to run the ball and finish the game, but I made a bad call,โ€ he said after the game. โ€œI knew they were blitzing. I knew what the coverage was. I thought we would catch it and get inside the 10-yard-line. I need to do a better job.โ€

Before the interception, ESPN had Louisville’s chances of victory listed at 98.8 percent. That, obviously, didn’t prove to be the case after the costly turnover.
