Boo Corrigan cleared up some confusion on Tuesday night when he had a media teleconference after his weekly interview on ESPN with Rece Davis.

Corrigan, the College Football Playoff committee chair, said it’s “not necessarily the case” that Ohio State would stay ahead of Alabama this weekend, even though neither team is playing on Saturday. He apologized to the media, but clarified that Ohio State and Alabama aren’t necessarily locked into their spots at No. 5 and No. 6.

Corrigan also addressed another debate within the SEC, which involves Tennessee at No. 7. Corrigan was asked why Alabama is ranked ahead of Tennessee although the Vols beat the Tide, and explained that Alabama’s 2 losses were better than Tennessee’s. He added that the ranking between those teams was heavily debated, but the loss to South Carolina “really stuck out in the mind of the committee.”

“It was very much debated amongst the committee,” he said. “The value of head-to-head is one of the criteria we look at. We’re looking at the full body of work.”
