Both Florida quarterbacks make initial injury report for showdown with Georgia
Football coaches will exercise any advantage they can find when preparing for a game. Sometimes that’s putting a star player on the availability report, like Lane Kiffin did with Sam Leavitt against Ole Miss in Week 3. Jon Sumrall doesn’t seem to be acting intentionally deceptive, like Kiffin, but his recent injury updates are making things cloudy for his opponent.
On Wednesday night, the Florida Gators listed both quarterback Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Running back Duke Clark joined them in the questionable category. Wide receiver Bailey Stockton and linebacker Jaden Robinson are out, but wideout Vernell Brown III is probable for the matchup.
Philo, Florida’s starter from Weeks 1-6, missed the Gators’ upset win over Texas with a shoulder injury. Jones got the start against the Longhorns and was relatively efficient, completing 62.9% (22/35) of his passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He added 10 carries for 41 yards as a rusher. His efforts helped Florida hold a 38:11-21:49 edge in time of possession vs. Texas in their battle.
Georgia will now spend the next two days preparing for both passers. The Gators and Bulldogs take the Cocktail Party indoors to Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Halloween afternoon (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
