The LSU Tigers took a hit to their defensive line earlier this week when transfer defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell departed from the team following just 2 games with the program.

The former Texas Longhorn joined the Tigers this past offseason and figured to be a rotational piece up front for Brian Kelly‘s squad as they looked to compete for a national championship in 2025.

It quickly became clear that the match wasn’t working out, though, as Mitchell failed to see any playing time over LSU‘s first 2 games of the season.

Now, it has been confirmed by Kelly that Mitchell is indeed no longer with the team, and the head coach talked about why earlier on Wednesday.

“We have standards that need to be met, and those standards weren’t met,” Kelly said per LSU insider Wilson Alexander.

It’s unlikely the Tigers’ head coach will divulge any more information than this on the matter, but it’s clear that Mitchell just wasn’t meshing with the championship culture that Kelly is trying to establish in Baton Rouge.

LSU has its sights on a national championship, and to win that, they need everybody pulling in the same direction. If Mitchell wasn’t pulling his weight in that regard, then cutting ties was the correct course of action.
