Last year, former Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly was Mr. Irrelevant in the NFL Draft, and missed his entire rookie season with the Denver Broncos while recovering from an injury.
Now, since he’s still eligible for rookie minicamp, he’s working hard and drawing rave reviews from his coaches.
One of the things head coach Vance Joseph has been proud of Kelly for is the way he’s transformed his body this offseason, saying he has been eating right and it’s showing on the field (via 247Sports):
โIโve been proud of Chad overall,” Joseph said. “Heโs been here every day and heโs worked his butt off. You mentioned it, heโs changed his body. Last year he was a little tubby kid. Heโs really lean now, heโs eating right, heโs working hard. Heโs definitely put the work in and heโs throwing the ball really well right now, so Iโm really proud of Chad. Heโs obviously here as a [first-year] player. Heโs been good for our new guys.โ
The Broncos signed Case Keenum to be the starting quarterback this year, but Kelly will compete with former first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the backup job.
Based on the early reviews from his coach, Kelly is off to an early lead in that battle.
