Bryce Underwood breaks off 38-yard touchdown run, Michigan strikes first vs. Oklahoma at Big House

Bryce Underwood and Michigan would love nothing more than their Week 2 game against Oklahoma to have as little drama as possible after a stunning, yet controversial, win against Western Michigan in Week 1.
After their first drive on Saturday ended with a punt from the Sooners’ 43, the Wolverines went to work on their second possession. This time, they found paydirt, as Underwood’s 38-yard touchdown run put them ahead 7-0 with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter at Michigan Stadium.
That doesn’t mean it was a smooth drive: Michigan was called for an illegal motion and a false start early on. But a pass interference penalty on Oklahoma later put the ball at the Sooners’ 38-yard line.
Underwood took advantage. On second-and-10, he called his own number and took it 38 yards to the end zone to put the Wolverines ahead late in the first.
That’s Underwood’s second rushing touchdown in as many games. He had a one-yard score on Michigan’s opening drive against Western Michigan in Week 1.
Michigan and Oklahoma have only met twice before, with Saturday serving as the second half of a home-and-home series. In 2025, Oklahoma beat Michigan 24-13 in Norman as John Mateer threw for a touchdown and ran for two more.
The teams first played each other in the 1976 Orange Bowl, a 14-6 Sooners win.
