Butch Jones still upset about Shy Tuttle’s injury against Georgia last year

Tennessee defensive tackle Shy Tuttle enjoyed a huge performance in his first game back from injury last Saturday. Tuttle recorded two tackles, recovered a fumble and broke up two passes during the Vols’ 45-24 win against Virginia Tech.

Tuttle’s appearance Saturday was his first in 336 days, according to John Brice of GoVols247. Head coach Butch Jones said it was great to have the former Tuttle back during an appearance with the Knoxville Quarterback Club, although he is still upset at how Tuttle’s injury took place.

The former four-star lineman broke his fibula on a block by Georgia lineman Brandon Kublanow last season, a play in which Jones called “unacceptable.”

“I don’t think the entire country realizes how the injury occurred, which was unacceptable,” Jones said in reference to the play in which Georgia’s Brandon Kublanow blocked down on Tuttle from behind. “And two, the severity of the injury. That’s an injury some individuals don’t come back from. It takes their career.

“To get him back on the field for us, credit to Jason McVeigh and the training staff, we’ve got to get him more in game shape, but you could see the quickness, the disruptiveness. It’s great to have him back. He’s just going to make us that much better.” Fortunately, the former four-star lineman was able to bounce back from injury and should enjoy a decorated career in Knoxville.
