Carson Palmer says he was ‘blown away’ by Joe Burrow’s rookie season

Joe Burrow’s rookie season exceeded the expectations of a former NFL quarterback who played 15 seasons in the league.
In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Carson Palmer discussed Burrow’s first season in the pros. Palmer called the former LSU standout one of the top 10 QBs of 2020.
“I was shocked,” Palmer said. “I thought he was gonna be a really good pro and thought the sky was the limit, but he came in and played as a rookie on a team that was not quite as good as every team they played personnel-wise and he still with that supporting cast around him played like one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league. I was blown away.”
In 10 games, Burrow posted a 65.3 completion percentage (264-of-404) throwing for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also scored 3 rushing TDs.
In the clip shared by McAfee, the two discussed the hard hits Burrow took throughout his injury-shortened rookie season. Palmer opined that the timing of Burrow’s season-ending injury was a silver lining.
“In retrospect, when you look back, he got hurt with that knee injury at the right time of the year, because now he’s got enough time for the surgery, the rehab, getting himself back, getting his confidence back in his knee in time for preseason games,” Palmer said.
Football fans everywhere, even those who don’t pull for the Cincinnati Bengals or the Bayou Bengals, are hoping to see a healthy Burrow back on the field this fall.
