The winner out of the SEC West across the past 5 seasons has been either LSU or Alabama.
Head coach Brian Kelly came to LSU and didn’t miss a beat in 2022, winning the Tigers the SEC West while beating Saban and the Crimson Tide during the regular season.
Losses to Florida State, Texas A&M, Georgia and Tennessee hindered 10-4 LSU’s ability to compete for a national title last year, but what do their odds look like heading into 2023? Can they take that next step in just 2 years under Kelly?
CBS Sports analyst Aaron Taylor tackled those questions Wednesday. More than anything, Taylor emphasized LSU QB Jayden Daniels’ role in the Tigers truly competing for a national title in 2023.
According to Taylor, if Daniels can build off positive momentum from last season he could be “just the type of piece” Kelly needs to bring his first title to Baton Rouge.
“If he can take that next step and continue to protect the football, he is a walking highlight machine and just the type of piece that Brian Kelly needs to take that next step,” Taylor said.
