The Dan Mullen era at UNLV is off to a strong start. The Rebels are 6-0 and a serious contender for the Group of 5 spot in the College Football Playoff.

CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel is currently projecting that UNLV will reach the CFP as the No. 12 seed. It would certainly be quite the achievement for Mullen, who has been out of coaching since being fired at Florida in 2021.

Mullen previously coached at Mississippi State from 2009-17 and Florida from 2018-21. Mullen has made a case to be in the running for College Football Coach of the Year. UNLV is atop the Mountain West standings in a 3-way tie with San Diego State and Boise State. Mullen’s team put the nation on notice with a Power 4 victory vs. UCLA in its third game.

UNLV is coming off a 51-48 victory vs. Air Force last weekend. The Rebels’ rushing attack racked up 4 touchdowns and 220 yards. Jai’Den Thomas had 88 yards and a touchdown. UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea passed for 361 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing for 62 yards and 2 scores.

Next up for UNLV is a key conference clash at Boise State on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET/FS1).
