There were only 9 SEC teams active in Week 6 of the 2025 college football season. That fact eliminated roughly half the pool of eligible candidates for CBS Sports’ SEC Head Coach of the Week. Even if every SEC school played last week, though, the winner of this week’s award likely wouldn’t be any different.
On Monday, CBS Sports revealed Florida head coach Billy Napier as its SEC Head Coach of the Week. The honor comes after Napier led his unranked team to a 29-21 victory over the then-No. 9 Texas Longhorns.
The Gators and Longhorns both entered their matchup off a Week 5 bye. Florida opened the game with a 13-play, 84-yard touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead and held a 10-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Gators then ripped off 15 straight points after the Longhorns’ second quarter touchdown cut their advantage to 10-7. From there, Florida held Texas at arm’s length to secure the win.
Napier and the Gators improved to 2-3 (1-1 SEC) with the triumph. The loss dropped Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns to 3-2 (0-1 SEC). Texas battles No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry this weekend (3:30 p.m. E.T., ABC), while Florida faces No. 5 Texas A&M in College Station (7:00 p.m. E.T., ESPN).
