CFB fans, media make fun of Senator Lindsey Graham for comments about NCAA NIL rules
By Adam Spencer
Published:
NCAA president Mark Emmert is testifying in Congress on Wednesday, speaking about the NCAA’s upcoming rules on athletes making money for their names, images and likenesses.
Many senators on both sides of the aisle have had questions for Emmert, regarding the NIL rules, which are set to be implemented before the end of the year, and other things like scholarships.
However, Sen. Lindsey Graham from South Carolina is taking his fair share of lumps on Twitter for comments he’s made. He seems to be concerned about athletes being paid to attend schools:
Sen. Lindsey Graham, again on NIL being used as recruiting inducements:
"You're going to unleash holy hell on young college athletes if you don't have some way to control people willing to buy a player to come to a school."
Hmm.

Sen. Lindsey Graham presiding over the Senate NIL hearing: "We cannot have a bidding war for recruits."
Who wants to tell him?

Of course, if you’ve paid attention to the news for the past 30 years or more, NCAA athletes being slipped money under the table is nothing new. Fans and media members were quick to make fun of the senator for having his head buried in the sand:

Who would know more about being bought and paid for than a US Congress person?

Can you imagine if players were lured to schools by being paid money by boosters? That would be wild. https://t.co/YbsPFb6g71

Yes, it will be important to make sure the NCAA’s NIL rules are put into effect properly, but acting like players have never been paid isn’t doing anyone any good.
