CFB insider offers details on Sam Leavitt’s injury ahead of LSU-Ole Miss game

The college football world was shocked to see No. 7 LSU‘s starting quarterback Sam Leavitt listed as doubtful ahead of the Tigers’ game at No. 8 Ole Miss.
While there has been plenty of social media speculation about it being a gamesmanship tactic by LSU coach Lane Kiffin ahead of the rivalry showdown, On3’s Pete Nakos is reporting, per sources, that Leavitt is dealing with a sore throwing shoulder. Per Nakos, Leavitt has been limited in practice.

One of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal, Leavitt joined the Tigers ahead of the 2026 season. He previously played for Arizona State.
In two games as LSU’s QB1, Leavitt has completed 62.1% of his passes (41-of-66) at 8.7 yards per attempt for 574 yards. Most concerning has been Leavitt’s touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2-4 after throwing 3 picks against Louisiana Tech. Leavitt has helped make up for the picks and lack of passing TDs by collecting 5 rushing scores.
If Leavitt is unable to play in the most anticipated game of the season, Husan Longstreet is LSU’s backup quarterback. Longstreet was a 5-star prospect in the Class of 2025. He signed with USC but transferred to LSU after 1 season with the Trojans. Longstreet has seen limited action, throwing 15 passes in 4 games at USC and just 1 pass for LSU in the 51-10 win over Clemson.
