Chris Beard calls 3-game slide for Ole Miss ‘understandable’ in the SEC

Chris Beard and the Ole Miss Rebels fell to No. 22 Mizzou on Saturday.

The loss was the Rebels’ 3rd in a row and 5th total loss on the season. Before this stretch, which now includes losses to Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Mizzou, the Rebels won their first 4 SEC games.

It’s been a tough stretch of games, as the Rebels have played 4 consecutive ranked opponents. The team knocked off Alabama to begin the stretch, but have failed to return to the win column since. After the loss to Mizzou on Saturday, Beard explained that it’s “understandable” to have a slide when playing in a tough conference like the SEC.

“Right now we’re in a little slide. We’ve played three of the best teams in the country. In this league, it’s understandable,” said Beard.

The coach also praised the Tigers, calling the team one of the best “in the country.”

“I think (Mizzou) is one of the best teams in the country. It’s not coach speak, it’s what I believe,” said the coach.

Beard has a point when speaking on the talent of the SEC. No team in the conference is lower than No. 81 in the KenPom rankings and 9 SEC teams are currently ranked inside the AP Top 25.

If there’s any positive news for the Rebels, it’s that the team has 3 straight home games coming up. However, 1 of those games is against No. 1 Auburn and another is against No. 9 Kentucky.
