Christian Coleman may very well be the fastest man on the planet.
That’s not hyperbole, either. The former Tennessee track and field star recently set the world indoor 60m record at the U.S. nationals in New Mexico. Coleman posted a time of 6.34 seconds, which beats a 20-year-old mark set by Maurice Greene in 1998. Greene’s record time was 6.39 seconds.
“I wanted to go get it, but it pretty much felt like a blur,” Coleman said after setting the new world mark, according to IAFF.com. “I just wanted to be the first to get to the finish line. I had put in a lot of work on my start, so it feels pretty good to do it.”
Considering he’s only 21, expect to hear Coleman’s name to continue to come up in the years to come heading into the next summer Olympics. There’s no doubt he’ll be among the favorites to bring home medals for the U.S. in track and field events.
