Christopher Smith, a senior defensive back for Georgia, has announced his plans for the 2022 season.

“This year was nothing short of amazing,” he wrote on Instagram. “With that being said, I have decided to return to the University of Georgia for my last year of eligibility.”

Smith had a solid season for Georgia as he played in 12 games, and started 11, as he finished with 35 total tackles, 4 pass breakups, 3 interceptions and 2 QB pressures. In the national championship game against Alabama Smith made a career-best 7 tackles, 2 pass breakups, a quarterback pressure and a third-quarter interception. He also threw a key block to spring Kelee Ringo on his 79-yard interception return for a TD that iced the game for the Bulldogs.

Smith had a career-high 7 tackles and an interception in Georgiaโ€™s 33-18 win over Alabama on Monday, along with a key third down pass breakup for the Bulldogsโ€™ defense.

In this national championship season, Smith will be remembered for having one of the early highlights of the season. Smith’s first career interception was a big one against Clemson with 2:58 left before halftime, he picked off a pass and returned it 74 yards for the Bulldogsโ€™ first score of the 2021 season.
