On Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference, LSU coach Ed Orgeron talked about what it would be like to play against his son this weekend.
Orgeron’s son, Cody, is the starting quarterback for McNeese State, the Tigers’ opponent Saturday night.
Said Ed Orgeron of the unique situation: “Obviously, itโs different, but Iโve got to put that aside. Iโve got to put the Tigers first. Heโs got to put McNeese first. Weโll compete like we always do.โ
While the game will be difficult for Ed, it won’t be any easier for Cody, who discussed his homecoming earlier this week.
โItโs definitely difficult,โ the senior signal caller said earlier this week. โGoing in there, I got both of my brothers still on the sideline, my dad. I feel like itโs me against the whole (family), but I wouldnโt want it any other way. I live for stuff like that. You dream of moments like this as a kid, and itโs finally here. I just canโt wait to go out there and play, have fun.โ
While McNeese State lost its season opener to West Florida, 42-36 last Saturday, the 6-1, 192-pound Orgeron played well, as he completed 30-of-48 passes for 361 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also added 35 yards and a TD on the ground.
And while his team enters the LSU game as a huge underdog, Cody Orgeron said he and his teammates have to put that aside and just play the game.
“Obviously, itโs a very unique situation playing against my dad,” Orgeron said. “But at the same time, itโs just another football game, 11-on-11. Go out there and fight and compete.”
The LSU-McNeese State is set to kickoff at 8 p.m. EST, and it will air on ESPN+ and SEC+.
