College football fans clown Lane Kiffin after Ole Miss earns biggest-ever win without him

Thanks to a remarkable effort from Ole Miss coach Pete Golding and his staff, the Rebels pulled off an upset for the ages on Thursday night in the Sugar Bowl.

Ole Miss defeated Georgia 39-34, earning a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Miami. The absence of Lane Kiffin hasn’t loomed as large as many believed it would throughout this run. The Rebels offense has been efficient in both Playoff games and averaged 6.5 yards per play against Georgia.

Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss before the start of the College Football Playoff for the LSU job was controversial at the time and has only become more questionable with each Playoff win for the Rebels.

Instead of potentially leading Ole Miss to the cusp of a national title, Kiffin is preparing for the transfer portal to open on Friday as the looks to build a Playoff-caliber roster in Baton Rouge.

The irony of this situation was not lost on college football fans or media in the aftermath of Ole Miss’s huge win over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Here’s the best of the reaction on social media:

Ole Miss and Miami will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 8.
