The cast and crew of ESPN’s College GameDay are making the trip to South Bend this weekend for the highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between the No. 11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the No. 1 Miami Hurricanes.
This will mark the first time since 2024 that GameDay has visited Notre Dame’s beautiful campus and the 13th time overall that the Irish have hosted the iconic Saturday morning pregame show, dating back to 1993.
As it turns out, Notre Dame also played host to the very first on-campus edition of College GameDay during that 1993 season. Now, 33 years later, ESPN has shared some nostalgic footage from that historic broadcast in anticipation of their latest visit:
This inaugural road broadcast featured a matchup between the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles and the No. 2 Fighting Irish, a game that fans and pundits alike dubbed the “Game of the Century.”
The retro program was filmed inside the Joyce Center in front of 2,000 fans and featured a young Rece Davis, an energetic Lee Corso and SMU legend Craig James. This blast-from-the-past has that classic early-90s look and sound that you just can’t find today, something many longtime fans will remember fondly.
That fateful late-season showdown between the Noles and the Irish lived up to its “Game of the Century” billing, and this Saturday’s meeting between Notre Dame and another program from the Sunshine State has a chance to do the same 33 years later.
