Colorado sophomore quarterback Julian Lewis was hospitalized on Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency at the team’s athletic facility. His father T.C. Lewis posted an update social media Thursday, writing, “he is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates and Colorado fans for their prayers and support.”

Lewis’s father added: “Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Lewis has not played for Colorado since late September’s loss at Baylor. He started Colorado’s first 4 games of the season, totaling 733 passing yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions at a 64% completion rate.

After a 2-2 start, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders made the decision to turn to backup quarterback Isaac Wilson. The Buffs have lost 3 straight since Lewis’ last outing and now sit at 2-5 on the season with 5 games to play. Earlier this week, when asked if Lewis would start again this season, Sanders responded, “that’s on him.”

Lewis was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school, considered a top 50 prospect in the Class of 2025. The Carrollton, Georgia native played sparingly last season, seeing action in 4 games and finishing with 589 yards and 4 touchdowns.
