Controversial call on 4th down leads to Kentucky TD vs. Alabama

Alabama and Kentucky are facing off in the first SEC game of the 2026 season.
With the game tied at 7, the Wildcats appeared to be stopped on a fourth-down play. Running back Willie Rodriguez appeared to drop the pass, but replay officials determined Rodriguez had firm possession of the ball before fumbling it out of bounds. That ruling gave the Wildcats a first down on the play.
Kentucky capitalized on the call, as Henry Boyer capped off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown catch to take a 14-7 lead.
Will Stein is the new coach at Kentucky after an impressive run at Oregon as the offensive coordinator.
For Alabama, freshman quarterback Keelon Russell is making his first road start, and things started off slow with two turnovers on his first two possessions. There is a recipe for pulling an upset like the Wildcats are trying to pull on Saturday, and so far, Kentucky is taking advantage.
Alabama is 39-2-1 all-time against Kentucky.
