Dabo Swinney rips FSU fans for flying banner calling for firing of Mike Norvell
Neither the Clemson Tigers nor Florida State Seminoles are having the 2026 season they envisioned. Because of this, it’s possible both Dabo Swinney and Mike Norvell are looking for new jobs come December. However, to the Tigers’ two-time national champion, there’s a proper way for fans to act when a team is struggling.
Following Clemson’s 36-24 win in Tallahassee, Swinney ripped Seminole supporters for flying a banner calling for Florida State to fire Mike “Novell” ahead of kickoff. The Tigers’ head coach pulled no punches with his commentary.
“That was embarrassing. Florida State’s better than that,” Swinney said. “They didn’t even spell his name right. It’s disrespectful. Mike Norvell is a good man… whoever did that, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.”
“This job is hard,” Swinney added. “I don’t know why we think because people make money you have the right to destroy people as humans.”
Clemson (5-3, 3-2 ACC) topped 30 points for the first time against a Power 4 team this year in the win over Florida State (3-5, 1-4 ACC). Tiger quarterback Tait Reynolds hit the jets for a 79-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Both the Tigers and Seminoles are on the road against similarly colored foes in Week 10. Clemson faces Syracuse and Florida State battles Boston College. Kickoff in both games is set for noon ET on Nov. 7.
