Anthony Richardson was a 4-star dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class and will stay in his hometown of Gainesville to play college football.
Now with the Florida Gators, Richardson will be in the mix to back up starter Kyle Trask in 2020.
Recently, coach Dan Mullen praised Richardson’s ability to pick up the Florida offense, particularly since, prior to this past week, there wasn’t much on-field instruction that could be done (via 247Sports):
โObviously he was really limited,โ Mullen said Thursday of Richardson. โWe were limited in what we were able to do. Like, โHey, youโve got a walkthrough without a football.โ Thereโs little things you can do. Itโs like taking batting practice without a ball or bat, I guess. It makes since at the quarterback position to try to teach somebody. โฆ thereโs little things you can teach without a football. But itโs much easier and better to teach with a football at the quarterback position.
โFrom what Iโve seen so far, he picks things up really fast, which is great,โ Mullen said. โHeโs taken a lot in and learned a lot from our ability to have all these different meetings. Heโs picked things up really fast. Iโm really excited about his future.โ
Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Richardson was the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2020 and the No. 30 overall recruit from the state of Florida.
What role will he carve out for himself this fall? We’ll find out over the next few weeks.
