Danny Kanell explains why he’s ‘terrified for Florida State’s future’

Florida State is reeling in a lot of uncertainties for the upcoming season. Former Florida State quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell weighed in on the future of FSU and why he’s nervous for his alma mater.
On WJOX 94.5’s ‘3 Man Front,’ Kanell provided his insight into the Seminoles’ moving forward and the future of the ACC, as a whole.

“I’m terrified for Florida State’s future because they will fall behind every team in the SEC. They will fall behind every team in the Big Ten. The ACC has the worst TV deals negotiated in college football that runs through 2036,” Kanell said. “(Florida State) needs the ACC to renegotiate or ESPN to step in and say ‘you know what, it’s not great for college football if our teams are getting half of the revenues. Their teams are going to fall behind.’ Or FSU finds their way out of the conference.”
With potential talks to move into the Big Ten or SEC, that could provide a much needed boost for the Seminoles in more revenue, per GatorSports.com.
The TV contract is just one area that is adding to the anxiety for FSU and the ACC.
According to sports writer David Whitley of Gator Sports, “If FSU wants to leave, it will have to pay an exit fee of about $125 million. Forfeiting the media rights would mean kissing away another $300 million or so.”
So, if FSU is seriously wanting to leave the ACC, it will have to pay and that will bring another potential interest into the Big Ten or SEC. But, for now, it will be FSU in the ACC, at least for this season.
