David Pollack names who Florida State ‘should’ hire to replace Mike Norvell

The Mike Norvell Era of Florida State football is over. The strain of the Seminoles’ unfortunate College Football Playoff snub following an unbeaten regular season in 2023 ultimately proved to be Norvell’s downfall. Following that development, Norvell went just 10-22 in Tallahassee.

With Norvell out of the way (and his approximately $50 million buyout on tap), Florida State may not have the biggest budget for his replacement. Manny Diaz and Jimbo Fisher have been mentioned as candidates for the job, but David Pollack is going in a different direction. He believes an ACC coach he talks about “with glowing love” should get the “first call.”

“To me, there’s one guy… Jake Dickert. Wake Forest,” Pollack said. “Dickert in the last two seasons in the ACC [is] 15-5. Got a little swag to him. Develops [players]. Forty-three years old, so still very young in the coaching profession. I don’t know what box he doesn’t check.”

Dickert has the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-1, 5-1 ACC) sitting at No. 14 in the AP poll entering November. Wake’s lone loss is a 33-20 blip vs. Miami, who’s currently the No. 1 team in the country.

If proven success in the ACC is a prerequisite for the job, there’s not anyone much better available than Dickert. Florida State takes on Boston College in Week 10.
