The biggest domino in the 2026 coaching carousel so far fell Sunday when reports emerged that the Florida State Seminoles had officially moved on from longtime head coach Mike Norvell following the team’s 36-24 Week 9 loss to the Clemson Tigers.
Fans and analysts immediately began speculating about who could be the next head coach in Tallahassee, with some wondering whether the school might pursue one of its most notable alumni in current Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.

It doesn’t look like the leadership at FSU has much interest in bringing Prime Time back to the Sunshine State, though, as 247Sports insider Brad Crawford reported Monday that Sanders is not being considered a serious candidate for the job.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke with Crawford, FSU leadership has made it clear that even though there is “some appetite” for and FSU guy, people at the top of the university have made it known that “some of the baggage that comes with Deion is not desired” as the program embarks on what is likely to be an extensive rebuild.
Sanders was a star cornerback for the Seminoles in the late 1980s, earning two unanimous All-American selections and winning the Jim Thorpe Award as a junior in 1988. Following an illustrious NFL career and a stint in the broadcast booth, Sanders has become one of the more controversial figures in college football as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.
While his legacy as a player remains unquestioned in Tallahassee, it doesn’t look like FSU has much interest in brining Sanders back into the fold as their next head football coach.
