No. 2 Alabama faces a tough road test on Saturday, traveling to Starkville to take on the No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will be eager to pick up a big win, but the Crimson Tide will be motivated to prove to the College Football Playoff committee that they deserve to be the No. 1 team in the country.
On Saturday morning’s SportsCenter, though, analyst Desmond Howard said he thinks the Tide could struggle against the Bulldogs (via 247Sports):
“Listen, hold onto your chairs, I know people canโt fathom the idea of Alabama losing a game, but I think Alabama just might be vulnerable today,” Howard said on SportsCenter. “When you look at the Tide, itโs all about the defense. Theyโre built on defense. And now, injuries are starting to add up on that side of the ball. Theyโre going to miss Shaun Dion Hamilton. He can make up for othersโ mistakes. And Minkah Fitzpatrick, heโs a game-time decision.
“Youโre going up against this Mississippi State offense with Nick Fitzgerald, a big quarterback who loves to run. Alabama just might be vulnerable today.”
Containing Fitzgerald will be a big key to Saturday’s game, as the Tide will have to stop him from running the ball first and make him beat them with his arm.
Saturday night’s game kicks off at 6 p.m. Central time and can be seen on ESPN.
