DeVonta Smith, a former Alabama cornerback, announced on Monday that he will transfer to Notre Dame for next season.
Smith, a junior cornerback who was a standout in the secondary for Alabama this season, will start immediately for the Fighting Irish, who will be looking to get back to the College Football Playoff after snagging the No. 7 seed this season.
With Notre Dame focused on winning a national championship this season, it’s no surprise that Smith is the first transfer pledge of the season for HC Marcus Freeman and Co.
Smith, as you can see above, didn’t snag any interceptions this season, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t effective. His low tackle numbers reflect that considering he totaled 421 snaps in 2024. Smith also had 5 pass deflections and a forced fumble against South Carolina.
As Alabama fans would bemoan, the Crimson Tide have lost a lot to the transfer portal so far after Year 1 under Kalen DeBoer. Caleb Odom, Kobe Prentice, Jahlil Hurley, Jeheim Oatis, Justice Haynes and Dylan Lonergan are just a few players to have already announced their exit from Tuscaloosa.
Ethan Stone is a Tennessee graduate and loves all things college football and college basketball. Firm believer in fouling while up 3.
