Diego Pavia helped Vanderbilt get its biggest win in the history of the program as the Commodores knocked off Alabama last season. The team went 6-6 on the year, and won a bowl for the first time since 2013.

Pavia had many schools trying to get him in the off-season, but he stayed at Vanderbilt because he wanted to take them to even another level.

The senior quarterback was recently on the Paul Finebaum show, and he didn’t shy away from saying what his expectations are for his team heading into the year.

“I think we’ve got the tools (offensively) and defensively to go put our foot forward and win the national championship,” Pavia said. That’s the standard.”

Pavia had an outstanding season last year for Vanderbilt, as he threw for 2,293 yards, 20 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He also made his presence felt running the ball, finishing with 800 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Those may sound like lofty goals, but the expectations haven’t been this high for Vanderbilt in a long time. At this time last year, nobody was talking about Vanderbilt, let alone having the quarterback on any national sports talk shows. However, Pavia has changed everything for the Commodores. Netflix is doing a special on the SEC, and Pavia has a big role on that documentary as well.

Ultimately, it is going to be on Pavia and his teammates to go out there and take that next step, but there will be confidence within this team that is fueled by the quarterback.
