It’s the second transfer for Gabriel. He began his career at UCF, playing 3 seasons for the Knights before transferring to Oklahoma.
Gabriel was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year by the league’s coaches in 2022. He was 230-of-367 passing for 3,168 yards, 25 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in his first season with the Sooners.
In 2023, Gabriel threw for 3,660 yards while completing 69% of his passes (266-of-384), posting a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 30-to-6. Gabriel guided the Sooners to a 10-2 season, highlighted by a Red River Rivalry win over Texas in which he led OU in rushing with 113 yards and 1 touchdown while also throwing for 285 yards and 1 score.
In his 5-season career, Gabriel has thrown for 14,865 yards and 125 touchdowns, throwing just 26 picks while completing 63% of his passes. Gabriel played 26 at UCF over 3 seasons, redshirting 3 games into the 2021 season after suffering a season-ending injury. The NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for 2020 allows Gabriel to return for a 6th season in 2024.
Gabriel is rated the No. 30 player in the transfer portal and No. 8 quarterback by 247Sports.
