DJ Wagner, the consensus No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2023, has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.
Wagner told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that he would play for John Calipari at Kentucky, and that only pads an already elite recruiting class. The group includes fellow 5-stars Justin Edwards (No. 2 overall), Aaron Bradshaw (No. 6), and Robert Dillingham (No. 9) in addition to 4-star Reed Sheppard (No. 29). All have already signed with the Wildcats except for Bradshaw, who is expected to do so on the final day of the early signing period Wednesday.
Wagner is 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds and is rated the No. 1 combo guard and No. 1 player overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Wagner, who is from Camden, New Jersey, had his decision come down to the Bluegrass rivals between Calipari and new Louisville coach Kenny Payne.
He is the son of a former pro Dajuan Wagner and grandson of Louisville legend and NBA player Milt “Ice Man” Wagner.
