For the first time since 2017, Auburn has defeated Georgia in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

The Tigers fell behind 14 points early in the game, but ended up taking a 17-14 lead into the break and extended their advantage to 24-14 in the third quarter.

Georgia ultimately tied the game and had the ball back with a chance to win in the game’s final minutes. However, a fumble from Gunner Stockton gave Auburn the ball near midfield.

Byrum Brown then led a drive into field goal territory to give Auburn a chance to win at the buzzer. Veteran kicker Alex McPherson drilled the kick, giving the Tigers a massive win under first-year head coach Alex Golesh.

This is the first time the AP No. 1 team has lost in back to back weeks to unranked opponents since 1990. Oklahoma defeated then-No. 1 Texas last weekend in the Red River Rivalry.

This is one of the most significant upsets of the entire 2026 college football season. The Bulldogs were favored by as many as 20 points throughout the week prior to kickoff.

This game will also likely have significant CFP implications for Georgia, who now has an uphill battle to make it back to the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.
