No. 7 Indiana defeated No. 3 Oregon 30-20 for a statement road victory on Saturday, as the Hoosiers are now off to a 6-0 start for the second straight season.
Oregon tied the game at 20 on a pick-6 thrown by Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and taken 35 yards to the house by Brandon Finney Jr. with 12:42 in the fourth quarter. However, Indiana recovered with the final 10 points of the game on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Mendoza to Elijah Sarratt with 6:23 to go and a 22-yard field goal by Brendan Franke with 2:06 left.
Indiana running back Roman Hemby rushed for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns in the victory. Mendoza completed 20 of his 31 passes for 215 yards, 1 touchdown, and an interception. Sarratt had 8 receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Aiden Fisher led the Hoosiers with 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Rolijah Hardy tallied 13 tackles with 2 tackles for loss. Kellan Wyatt added 1.5 sacks for Indiana.
Indiana’s defense forced Oregon quarterback Dante Moore into a difficult showing. Moore finished with 180 passing yards, a touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Isaiah Jones and Louis Moore snagged those picks for the Hoosiers.
This result will likely have significant College Football Playoff implications for both teams.
