There is a lot of uncertainty currently surrounding the 2020 college football season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Multiple programs have had to pause offseason workouts due to COVID-19 cases and a pair of Power 5 conferences have already adjusted their schedules to only conference games, but LSU coach Ed Orgeron is confident that the Tigers will take the field.

“My gut feeling is we’re going to play,” Orgeron said on the SEC Network program “Marty and McGee.”

As he continued, Orgeron acknowledged there could be changes to LSU’s schedule.

“Whether we start Sept 5 or a little after that; in-conference, out of conference, that doesn’t bother me,” he told the hosts.

“I do know this: I believe we’re going to play. I’m almost certain we’re going to play,” he added.

LSU is currently scheduled to host UTSA on Sept. 5. The SEC is expected to announce a decision on the fall sports schedule by the end of the month. The conference is reportedly considering various options, including a conference-only slate as well as the 8 conference games plus other Power 5 opponents. The Big Ten and Pac-12 have announced conference-only schedules.
