LSU is making its first SEC Championship Game appearance since 2011. Tigers coach Ed Orgeron wants to make trips to Atlanta more regular for the program.

โ€œ(The SEC Championship) is the standard at LSU,โ€ Orgeron said in an appearance Saturday on ESPNโ€™s “College GameDay.” โ€œThatโ€™s why you come to LSU. Thatโ€™s why these guys have been committed. Thatโ€™s why these coaches have been committed. Itโ€™s going to be a great challenge. โ€ฆ We have to win at the line of scrimmage. Theyโ€™re very physical. We have to run the ball, stop the run and basically play with the LSU standard of performance.โ€

Orgeron isn’t concerned with trying to jump Ohio State for the No. 1 ranking.

โ€œWe play the game to win it, and thatโ€™s it. Go Tigers,โ€ he said when asked about style points.

Orgeron was mindful of his roster situation and made a recruiting pitch on national television.

โ€œHopefully, this is just the beginning,” Orgeron said. “Obviously, we have a great quarterback in Joe Burrow. We have to find a great quarterback for the future. I do believe I have the right coaching staff in place. I think most of the pieces are in place to have a successful run.โ€

Burrow, a departing senior, figures to be a high pick, possibly No. 1 overall, in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Tigers shouldn’t have trouble finding another talented passer looking to put up big numbers in Joe Brady’s revamped offense.
