Edrees Farooq to miss 2026 season, Tennessee announces

Tennessee will be without Edrees Farooq for the 2026 season.
The Tennessee safety was injured in practice Friday morning and had to be taken to UT Medical via ambulance. On Saturday, UT revealed the injury to be a torn patellar tendon, ending Farooq’s season.

In 2025, Farooq’s sophomore season, he was a starting safety for the Vols in all 13 games. He tied for third on the team with 76 total tackles. He was second on the team with 2 interceptions and logged 3 pass breakups. Farooq’s 4 forced fumbles were good for sixth in the FBS and second in the SEC.
New defensive coordinator Jim Knowles had high praise for Farooq as the Vols began fall camp.
“He picked things up quickly and then put himself in position to make plays,” Knowles said at the start of camp. “So there’s one thing, getting the scheme. That’s step one. And then, can you function within that scheme and actually make plays? And I saw him make a lot of plays this spring that I was happy about.”
Tennessee opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Furman.
