Eli Drinkwitz addresses speculation linking him to other CFB jobs
Eli Drinkwitz has posted a 45-27 record as the Missouri Tigers football coach. He has the second-most 10-win seasons in school history (2), behind Gary Pinkel (5). His success, though, has made him an attractive candidate for bigger SEC jobs, such as Florida and Auburn.
Mizzou fans are concerned that Drinkwitz’s eyes might be on another opportunity. On Tuesday, he spoke at length on the speculation that he’s thinking about heading elsewhere. Bottom line: he believes everything about it is a distraction.

“I’m not going to comment on message board chatters, tweets, sources,” Eli Drinkwitz said. “I’ve maintained with you and our team that my complete focus is on the task at hand… all of this stuff is just a distraction.”
“I would like to remind everybody, including our fans: we absolutely love Mizzou,” he continued. “We love what we’re building… our administration has been nothing short of phenomenal to me. The alignment that we have… is tremendous.”
“Since I’ve been here, I’ve signed multiple extensions. In fact, I signed one this past summer,” he added. “All the speculation is really a tribute to [the administration], and it’s a tribute to our team’s success… and I’m not going to get into all that stuff, because, again, it’s just a distraction.”
Drinkwitz is currently under contract with Missouri through the 2029 season. His buyout is nearly $29 million, now 8th-highest in the SEC after Brian Kelly’s firing from LSU. Missouri battles Oklahoma in Week 13 (12:00 p.m. ET, ABC).
