Missouri claimed the Border War on Friday with a 38-21 victory at Kansas. Afterwards, Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz made it a point of emphasis to call out the Jayhawks for their “Heroes and Villains” video this week on social media, which denounced Missouri’s past as a slave state.

Drinkwitz believes it was especially in poor taste on the heels of the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

“I thought that was uncalled for. This is about 2 teams playing football,” Drinkwitz said. “Especially on 9/11 when we need more unity now than ever before, to be putting some stuff on your screen celebrating, I mean everybody’s got a complicated past. To make that an icon was bizarre to me.”

Drinkwitz also revealed that the video added fuel to the fire for Missouri to score a late touchdown with the game already out of reach.

“I’m just glad that this whole right vs wrong bull crap that was started just got settled on a football field because it’s a football game. It’s an American football game. People love to come watch and cheer for their teams,” Drinkwitz said. “It’s not any deeper than that and I get that there’s a past but why are we starting that bull crap up?…I was embarrassed for them to be honest. That’s why I tried to embarrass them at the end.”

Next up for Missouri is a home contest vs. Troy on Sept. 19 (7 p.m. ET/SEC Network+).
