Eli Drinkwitz earns national ‘Coach of the Week’ honor after beating Florida
The Missouri Tigers were everyone’s favorite punch line heading into their matchup with the Florida Gators. Josh Pate clowned AP voters for ranking them. The usual anti-SEC crowd on social media pointed to them as the poster child for pro-SEC bias amongst national pundits.
Then, with one game, they shut all their haters up. And their head coach is receiving his credit for the effort.
On Monday afternoon, the Dodd Trophy named Eli Drinkwitz its Week 5 Coach of the Week. The move comes after Mizzou utterly dominated Florida 45-17 last Saturday to improve to 4-1 (1-1 SEC).

The Tigers’ defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage against the Gators, holding running back Jaden Baugh to just 13 yards (1.1 yards per carry) in the game.
Baugh entered action averaging 150 yards per game and 7.3 yards per carry, amassing considerable Heisman Trophy hype in the process. Mizzou’s approach forced quarterback Aaron Philo to carry Florida’s offense, but he posted just 5.8 yards per pass attempt.
Drinkwitz and Co. leapt 11 spots in the AP poll following their victory. They can improve their College Football Playoff resume and deal a death blow to a fellow conference member’s CFP chances by beating Texas A&M in Week 6.
The Aggies and Tigers face off at 12:00 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (ABC).
