The No. 13 Missouri Tigers have gotten off to another fantastic start under head coach Eli Drinkwitz, currently holding a 5-1 record through the first 6 weeks of the 2026 campaign.
The most impressive part of the Tigers’ early success this season has been the fact that they have done it all without their best player in star running back Ahamd Hardy, who has been sidelined all year while recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained during the offseason.
Drinkwitz gave an update on Hardy’s recovery to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, and he also took some time to poke fun at Mike Elko by referring to message boards as “cesspools” as the Texas A&M coach did this past weekend.
“I will tell y’all when there is an update,” Drinkwitz said. “Contrary to what is on the cesspool of message boards, uh, there’s no update. He hasn’t began a 2 week ramp up period. If he practices, I promise that I’ll tweet it out. I won’t even give it to [ESPN insider] Pete [Thamel]. We’ll just do it ourselves.”
Drinkwitz has always been known for his sense of humor, especially when it comes to his interactions with the media, so his poking fun at message board rumors and an SEC rival is extremely on brand for the 7th-year head coach.
That being said, there probably isn’t a single person in Columbia who wants to see Hardy back at practice more than he does, and there’s no doubt he’ll be the first to let everybody know when he is finally able to return to action.
